We hit pay dirt with Loretta. She has been the standard to which the rest of our milkers have been held. She has a wild work ethics and has milked through two different fire evacuations. She is the template for our once-a-day milkers with a capacious udder that can comfortably hold 24 hours of milk at about 70% of her TAD volume. Her strength is in her udder and effort on the milkstand as well as her lovely face. She does leave a little to desire in between those things, as she is a bit narrow in the chest, loose in the shoulders and steep in the rump. Having said that, she has been a persistent and healthy milker and has probably the fastest kiddings with zero complications. She wouldn’t win ribbons in the show ring but she will probably outperform most blue ribbon does on the milkstand and the kidding pen, doesn’t partake in drama and is quiet in her down time and those attributes are worth their weight in gold on this farm.
